The Love of Our Art

This past weekend is a blur. I can't believe it came and went so quickly! More amazing is that I survived and also made three new friends (amigas). Welcome Ana, Irma y Paula!

I had no idea when my little sister gave my a tiny little chipboard scrapbook that I'd end up having so many girl friends with a like hobby. OK, so some of you are more than hobbyists, but we'll let that be our secret Vicky! Oops, did I really type that Melinda? Yes Ammie I did. OK, so now three women are staring at me with their hands on their hips.

Every time we get together I learn more about the gals. Our instructor at the CROP, Annette, started a game where we recall funny stories. It was there I learned more about the girls who attended this CROP. It's funny, though we had a full house I miss several of the gals I met at Viv's store in Odessa. I miss Lisa and Tina and Cindy. I pray for them cause I don't see them much. I really pray for Viv and Cindy as they have had some real physical issues in the past year.

The world is a funny place and scrapbooking is a vent for some of us. It is also a place to reflect, to remark, to recall, to illustrate and to create. Hopefully no one will write some stupid "rule book" about scrapbooking. I can promise you I'll break every rule they make. Who says you have to have photos in a scrapbook? Who says you have to use little black photo corners? Who says you can't use a computer? It doesn't matter to the gals I play with, we do things our own way. We do love to share the arts we use in our chosen hobby. I refuse to call it passion, I reserve that for the Lord and Him alone.

I'm so in love with what I do that I do it for money! That is very unusual for me. I'm headed to my office in our other house to work on my passion. I don't just do scrapbooking, I also do paper crafting. I don't know why I love working with paper. It's such a fragile art and so susceptible to decay. I just love finding new paper. My friend Vicky is really good at finding paper. I love her style of art. I would love to just sit and watch her work. I haven't had time to do that yet, but maybe we will find time to share just how she gets the results she works for!

I'm learning the lingo of the scrapbooker. I know a few names now and can even "name drop" them with the more experienced artists. Tim Holtz is into altered art and I relish his finished products. K & Company feeds my artsy fartsy side. Bo Bunny has some awesome paper and cardstock goodies. Cricut is always innovating with electronic die cutting technology. Everyone should own a "Big Shot" or at the very minimum a "Cuttlebug". What would life in the handmade card making industry be without the Martha Stewart Scoring Board (Which can be had for $10 with a 50% off coupon at Michael's). Of course I'm a rep with Stampin' Up! and I love their stamps, inks and papers. I'm presently looking for "grungeboard" so I too can join the ranks of the industrial chic!

I hope you will post a comment and also tell others to follow this blog. I crave input and want to meet all the scrapbook artists, card making gurus, and you closet altered artists come share your gifts. If you'll link to me, I'll link to you! Follow me and I'll follow you on FB and Twitter!

May the force of scrapbooking be with you!

The Party's Over

Gals,

It's official, we had a blast and my feet can testify to the fact that we "CROPped until we dropped". I took about three hours today and cleaned up the mess I made with all my supplies. I took the time to sort all my scrapbook paper and cardstock! My scrap office/workspace is beautiful and gets closer to a dream room every day!

Annette Martin was a delightful instructor and house guest. She and her mom spent the night in the "littlest CROP house in Texas" and the A/C decided to freeze up. Not fun, but they surely didn't complain. Annette even opened the cabinet to allow the A/C to thaw.

We had a total of 14 gals and 1 guy at the BBQ/CROP/Workshop. Chef Jeff was there to cook for us. The gals raved about the burgers and we had so much food I was able to bless a single mom with a lot of the leftovers.

Melinda Brady won the big prize Friday evening and Ann Carrillo won the big prize Saturday. We all had so much fun with all the games that Annette came up with. I'd love it for all the gals to send me totals of how many pages they actually finished (including those we did at the workshops).

Annette brought a small portion of her supplies from her store and we enjoyed filling our "cardstock" supplies. She brought a boat load of cardstock and we got one tremendous deal because of it!

It was a great time and I'm already considering when to have another. I think the food was great, but I'd love to keep things a little more simple next time. What do you gals think about having sandwiches and chips instead? Do post here and let me know when you'd like to do another CROP and what you'd be ok with as far as food goes.

Feedback from those of you who attended would be maaavelous!

We CROPped all evening Friday until almost 1:00AM and then turned around Saturday and did four layouts, two summer and two Fourth of July or patriotic layouts! They came out great and everyone personalized their pages. After we had our yummy gourmet burgers (cooked by Chef Jeff) we continued on our fun with several Big Shot demos and then we made a western themed card and a Luau themed card. I had fun demonstrating them and the gals had fun using the Big Shot to cut out some cute card stock die cuts for future use.

All I can say is "You shoulda been there!" Maybe next time? If you're interested in CROPs and workshops please text me either on Facebook, Twitter or comment here!

Until next time.

We'll make a Western themed invite card as well

You will need scissors, tape runners, and be ready for fun!

Lunch on Saturday will be gourmet burgers barbequed by my husband (a former meat Chef for Johnny Carson's "Here's Johnny" restaurant). We ask you gals to bring sides. We need items like potato salad and things that go well with sirloin burgers. Drinks, paper goods, burgers, condiments and bibs (just kidding) will be provided. "Hey these are good burgers".

We only have a couple spots left for the Friday CROP and a few spots left for the workshops on Saturday. First come, first served!

The CROP is out in quiet and lovely Gardendale, TX. Gardendale is 10 miles north of Odessa and 14 miles west of Midland. It will be well worth your time to come. We are going to have a blast and you'll love the serene atmosphere out here in the country. You can forget the housework, kids, hubby and hassles of everyday life and just be with a bunch of happy gals doing what they love best! This is our first PB & J sponsored CROP and are hoping for a good turnout so we can do these all through the year!

My Scrapbooking Group

I am posting this on three blogs at one time, ain't tecnology grand?

Once a month I put together a paper crafting meeting at our local Barnes & Noble store. I come up with guest speakers and demonstrators and we have a great time.

This month "jewel" Vicky Mumme was our presenter/demonstrator. She put together a very informative and interesting presentation. She had just returned from a convention in Dallas where she had seen Tim Holtz share his new products and skills in a workshop format.

For those of you who have not yet heard of Tim Holtz I challenge you to do a Google search of Tim and watch a few videos of his style.

We saw first hand some "altered art" Vicky has been working on, and even made lovely paper roses with simple five petal flower die cuts.

Our group continues to grow and this meeting was standing room only! If you are in the Permian Basin of west Texas, come to Barnes and Noble on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm and join us! The meetings are open to the public and free of charge!

Summer BBQ Crop

Mark your calendars, save your shekels (that's money), get your paper and supplies packed and come to Gardendale. Why? Well PB & J is sponsoring it's first CROP and it's going to be so much fun. We'll have workshops, demonstrations, door prizes, snacks and a BBQ out in the country. Come to the "littlest CROP house in Texas", at least that's what I call it.

We have limited room (9 for the CROP Friday) and (14-16 for the workshops and classes Saturday). Our guest instructor will be Annette Martin of "Scrapping the Moments" in Snyder, TX. She has a cute little scrapbook store there and has THE cutest stuff. I just recently purchased a kit for only $9.00 and made a bunch of pages. Anyway, she will be helping you gals get your pages together at a CROP on Friday (6:00PM-midnight) and then from 10:00AM-noon Saturday we'll have a BIG SHOT demonstration/card workshop and then from 1:00PM-4:00PM Annette will be walking us through 2-2page layouts. One will be a summer set and the other a 4th of July set. Her pages are so cute and she's been scrapping for 17 years.

The cost for the full weekend is $50.00 and that includes all workshops and classes, your gourmet burger on Saturday and snacks Friday. We are asking gals to bring sides for the Saturday BBQ so we can keep costs down.

Annette is bringing a "Bucket of Booty" from her store for door prizes and I've been collecting goodies as well. No one goes home empty handed. For a brochure email me at: cerwelt @gmail.com.

Workshop

Once a month I get together with a few of my girlfriends from Odessa and we make cards for our loved ones. This month my daughter and granddaughter were with us. We made a father's day card in the shape of a matchbook and a generic birthday card.

One of the gals played hostess (she gets free stamps) and brought the most yummy dessert.

I enjoyed playing and sharing my friends with my daughter and her little girl. Hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did!

My granddaughter was such a big help. I look forward to when she is old enough to come spend time alone with grandma.
