May has been dubbed, "National Scrapbook Month" and with it comes the urge to scrap. Yesterday I had intended to rest all day, but instead I went to my office and worked on cards. I knew I didn't want to get in the middle of a huge project and then have a mess to clean up. I had originally went over to get my phone charger which was plugged into the surge protector next to one of my storage cabinets. I just couldn't resist all those lovely supplies so neatly organized.
Early yesterday I had purchased the April "Complete Cardmaking" (a magazine from the UK). It came with some cute card papers and "decoupages". I had seen that term used before in connection with scrapbooking and card making, but had no idea what it meant. My idea of decoupage is to glue a picture onto wood and then to cover it with some sort of protective medium. As I looked at the freebies that came with the magazine I could quickly see that it meant a picture duplicated several times and then cut out. One then layers pieces of the picture to make it look dimensional. I had fun making four cards and then I decided to use some of the brand new Stampin' UP Specialty papers I just bought in preparation for an upcoming workshop.
I inked the papers and the embossing that comes already put on the paper causes a resist look. I inked with some Rich Razzleberry, Pink Passion and Melon Mambo. These are some of my favorite colors. The hidden pattern on the paper is a lattice background. Once I inked the paper with the three colors it became a neat background for some felt flowers and some glittered leaves. Loverly. I added some buttons, a border with 1/8" ribbon woven through tiny holes that came punched in them. It was a great afternoon. Just a couple hours and my creative juices were filled to the brim. So much fun.
Today I have a workshop. We're making Father's Day cards, Cinco de Mayo cards and then playing with the new specialty papers. I know it will be "muy divertido" (very fun).
I look forward to scrapping all through this month. I have a brand new 6 x 6 Stampin Up album and a new Bigz flower die I love using. I can hardly wait to play.
What are you doing during this month to celebrate "Natl Scrapbooking Month"?
A place where paper crafters of all ilks from the Permian Basin of West Texas can come and share their hobby.

2nd to last reminder..."Genealogy 101"

I'm going to bug you, plain and simple. Tomorrow evening (April 13th 7:00PM) is our April Permian Basin Jewels (PB&J) Paper Crafters meeting. Our subject: Genealogy 101. What does genealogy have to do with paper crafting? Well if you do any scrapbooks of family members that have already passed on you are doing archival scrapbooking. Archival scrapbooking can be dramatically enhanced with a touch of knowledge about genealogy.
It can be downright boring to have an album, even a scrapbook without a clue to who is who and who did what. Add some journaling and even some bits a pieces you've found while looking for your ancestor's life history and you've got a best seller.
Beverly Wait from the Midland Genealogical Society will be our guest speaker. She will be presenting "Genealogy 101" and will even have handouts so you can take your new found knowledge and actually apply it to your scrapbooking.
I'm asking all you gals who attend to bring a dozen cookies. Barnes and Noble has a wonderful coffee cafe and you can get either a cup of tea, coffee or a cold beverage to quench your thirst. This is our way of supporting them as they offer free meeting space to us.
I have a bunch of goodies for our door prizes and want to invite all of you to come, bring friends and make this an unforgettable meeting.

Permian Basin Jewels Paper Crafters April Meeting

Time is passing and I'm playing catch up. Next Tuesday (April 13th) is our monthly meeting and it promises to be a great one. Beverly Wait will be presenting "Genealogy 101". Many of you are creating archival scrapbooks in memory of some family member that has passed on. Finding information about family members can be a real challenge if you don't have someone who can fill in all the details. Beverly will give us the basics of connecting with records and information regarding ancestors who have gone on before us.
We will be meeting at Barnes & Noble in Midland, TX at 7:00PM back in the cookbook section of the store.
I am asking all the gals to bring a dozen cookies (or something similar). I will be providing some fun door prizes. I am also bringing our monthly printable CD so reserve yours now. I've included a huge selection of scrapbook papers, embellishments as well as some beautiful family trees that can be filled in and added to scrapbooks. The CDs are $5.00 to cover the cost of the cd, envelope and labels. I will print off samples and share them at the meeting. I have burned 10, but if you want one I suggest you email me and reserve them as they always sell out.
If you want more information you can reach me at cerwelt@gmail.com.
Please feel free to invite all your friends who love scrapbooking or genealogy. Men are welcome too! This is an open meeting so come one, come all!

Cinco de Mayo
Over the weekend several of us got together and did a greeting club workshop. One of the projects we did was actually a "Cinco de Mayo" scrapbook page. I love the Stampin' Up stamps "Cinco de Mayo" and all the fun projects you can do with them. Fiestas, birthdays, Mexican vacations, and music festivals are just a fee of the projects that come to my mind. Of course living in Texas and previously in New Mexico doesn't hurt.
Here is a page I made after the workshop. I will probably save it for the birthday of a young gal I know as her birthday just happens to fall on that day!

April Workshop
Gals,
Here is a picture of my "desktop caddy" workshop project I am planning. If you're interested in participating please email me at cerwelt@gmail.com. You can make this desk caddy for your mom for mother's day. It can also be made with more masculine paper and it can be a father's day gift. Fill it with some office supplies and make an inexpensive gift that says, "I love you" without breaking the bank.
Again, if your interested in making this at one of my April workshops. Holler.

April PB & J CD Jam Packed with Goodies

I'm a confessed computer geek, but I know many of you are clueless to finding and using things found on the Internet. I've been online since the early 80s and have been searching for great things to teach and share with my friends just about that long.
One of the things I do for the girls that come to the PB & J club meetings is to compile the latest printable pretties from the Internet and burn them to a monthly CD. Once I get in the habit of doing this again, I will include a text file listing all the goodies I've included. This month is so full of stuff it has three times as much as last month's. March was

April's CD has family trees that you can fill in and use as background for scrapbooks. I've also included a load of background papers you can print on regular copy paper and use

I've included some screen shots of a few of the cute papers and tags included in this CD. They are free on the websites I found them on, but I've done the work of finding and saving them to a CD for anyone who wants one to have one. I do charge $5.00 for the cost of the CD, the labels and envelopes, and know that whoever gets one will love it!
If I have orders ahead of time I can be sure and save one for you. If you aren't sure whether you're going to make the meeting, but want one you can email me at cerwelt@gmail.com. Please put PBJ CD in the subject line as I may not recognize your email address.
The CDs are just one more reason why you want to come to our really fun meetings. We also have door prizes and refreshments. Speaking of which, we need gals to bring refreshments and door prizes for April's meeting. Holler if you can help out with either one.
Blog on all you computer geeks and paper crafters.
